These are the mountains that everybody wants to see when they visit the Alps, and indeed they should. The Grindelwald, Zermatt & Chamonix hike offers a jam-packed week filled with the best full-day and half-day hikes beneath these iconic peaks, the most famous and photographed mountains in Western Europe. You’ll love this trip if you enjoy a healthy mix of hiking and sightseeing, you’d like to visit three famous regions of the Swiss and French Alps, and you enjoy a splash of luxury too.
This Alps hiking adventure begins in the Swiss chalet village of Grindelwald. You’ll have time on the first day to enjoy a bit of sightseeing or hike to one of the prettiest lakes in the region. We’ve developed this experience so that you can hike every day in the Alps, or you can mix and match hiking with sightseeing. Sample traditionally made Alpkäse (alpine cheese) at a mountain dairy or sip champagne and watch the sun glisten on the glacier capped Bernese Alps. The following day you’ll get an introduction to inn-to-inn hiking in Switzerland as you hike on the region’s most scenic trails to the carless village of Wengen. Your luggage will be transported. Views of the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungrau will leave you speechless on this day. From Wengen, transfer to the world class center of outdoor fun, Zermatt, perched beneath the iconic Matterhorn. You’ll be greeted by the jingle of horse drawn carriages as you step off a red cog wheel train in the center of car-free Zermat. We’ve picked two of the most scenic hikes in the region for you to enjoy. Scamper through flower filled meadows. Snap photos of the region’s largest glaciers. Toss back a beer in a sun-drenched chalet village near the base of the Matterhorn. Finally, transfer via the Mont Blanc Express train to the birthplace of alpine pursuits, Chamonix, France. We’ll provide maps, routes, and logistical descriptions for two of the most scenic hikes in Chamonix. Both hikes offer incredible views of the famous Mer de Glace glacier and Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe.
