The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is one of the most famous village-to-village hiking tours in the Alps. This classic hike circumnavigates Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe. The TMB passes through France, Italy and Switzerland during the course of its journey and visits popular villages like Chamonix, France, Courmayeur, Italy, and Champex-Lac, Switzerland along the way. Speedy hikers can complete a full TMB in just a few days, but most hikers complete the route in 10-12 days, often enjoying a rest day somewhere along the trail. Our hike begins in Chamonix, France and follows a counter-clockwise direction around Mont Blanc. The hiking days are strenuous, and following a hearty breakfast, hikers typically jump on the trail between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning and get off the trail between 4:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon. Luggage is transported (except for a few remote locations), evening meals are provided, and the hiking days are designed so that you’ll have just enough time to prop up your feet with a cold beer or wine and gaze in wonder at the glacier-covered mountains glistening in the sun.
Would you like to lengthen or shorten your Tour du Mont Blanc? We recommend spending an extra night in any of the villages and small towns along the TMB hike. Chamonix, France and Courmayeur, Italy offer great options for sightseeing, shopping and day hiking around Mont Blanc. The Swiss village of Champex-Lac is a relaxing lakeside oasis with options for day hikes and canoeing.
