This four night Swiss Alps inn-to-inn hike explores a culturally rich and incredibly scenic region of eastern Switzerland called the Upper Engadine with an additional walk into a mysterious Italian-speaking valley called the Val Bregaglia.
The movie Heidi was once filmed in the Upper Engadine which speaks volumes about the scenery. The rustic hillside hamlets, the ancient Romanesque villages, the sparkling lakes and the glistening glaciers of the Piz Bernina, jewel of the Upper Engadine and the tallest mountain in the eastern Swiss Alps, all combine for an authentically Swiss backdrop.
It’s against this backdrop of picturesque Swiss alpine scenery that we’ve paired the most delightful mountain trails with charming mountain inns and hotels exuding local character. The hike begins in the village of Zuoz, one of the Engadine’s most treasured storybook villages, and continues across panoramic hiking paths to the historic village of Pontresina, idyllic lakeside Sils Maria and atmospheric Soglio, nestled beneath the impressive Sciora mountains in the Val Bregaglia. This hike through the Upper Engadine also includes first class round trip rail tickets between Zuoz and Soglio to/from any entry point in Switzerland. Luggage is transported between Zuoz and Soglio. You’ll enjoy walking with a day pack as you hike from village to village and drink in the stunning scenery of the eastern Swiss Alps. Heidi would be proud!
